Pendulum is a photographic series that explores the surreal landscape of the human psyche. Through the use of cinematic narrative photography, the work investigates the ever changing head space of our inner worlds and examines how we affect and in turn are affected by these states of being.
I am interested by the way our emotions swing so drastically between the foreign and familiar and how we articulate the middle ground which sees the calm and chaotic collide. This middle ground acts as a space of limbo, a vast void of conciseness where rational thought clashes with irrational thought; stillness is disturbed by movement and absence is intruded on
by presence.

These concepts are juxtaposed against each other - repelling one yet attracting another. Using the Australian landscape as my backdrop, I have explored these ideas through self portraiture; conveying the internal into the external world. The contrast of the inner world in the natural environment explores this shift in space and presents a feeling of the uncanny.
Through abstraction and a focus on the internal, Pendulum explores the notion of the uncanny in the vastness of an ever changing headspace, transferring the surreal nature of the human mind into the physical realm.
