Abstract from exhibition catalog -
The autobiographical series sees artist Katherine Griffiths reconstruct the fondest
memories she associates with her house. Featuring overtly feminine symbols; a dress, a
naked female form, the garden and flowers, Griffiths unashamedly expressed her
attachment to her domestic environment. There is a timeless quality to these works,
which is emphasised by Griffiths’ evocative use of colour and tone.
Caught in a Memory exists somewhere between nostalgia and fantasy. The series
takes the viewer on a journey tinged with melancholy that contrasts with the
apparently beautiful façade of the photographs. Beneath these perfectly lit, feminine
images is the pervading sense the ideal is all slipping away.
